The Best Puppy Chow

Today I’m partnering with Splenda to make The Best Puppy Chow.

First things first – what do you call this treat? Puppy chow? Muddie buddies? I need to know.

We love puppy chow in our house! We make it every Christmas and give it out to family and friends. During Christmas we call it “reindeer food.” We leave it out on Christmas Eve for Santa’s reindeers to have a treat. Santa wrote in a letter to the girls they were tired of carrots! Aka Mom wanted a better treat to snack on when she was playing Santa.

We make our puppy chow in a large Ziploc bag. I understand it’s unconventional, but it is very kid friendly and my girls love to shake, shake, shake! For us and our girls, family traditions are very special but can be very messy when it involves them and food. So trust me when I say to try the Ziploc hack. You and your kids will love it!

Now, for this recipe I made my own powdered sugar and it’s super easy. Splenda actually provides instructions on their website with tons of other recipes as well. I find myself even going on there browsing all the yummy recipes from time to time! They even have a conversion chart to help determine how much Splenda to use when a recipe requires real sugar.

Why I use Splenda Monk Fruit:

One cup of conventional powdered sugar is about 467 calories and 120 g of carbs. Now, although there is nothing wrong with eating this, but why not make a simple swap to save almost 500 calories? And for it to taste the exact same! It sounds like a win to me.

The Process:

Making powdered sugar is surprisingly very simple. I just took 1 cup of Splenda’s Monk Fruit and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and put it in my handheld blender. This will really work with any type of processor. Just pulse or blend for about 30 seconds and it just turns into fine and delicious powdered sugar.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 cup of chocolate chips (You can swap these out for Stevia Chocolate Chips to make it Sugar-Free!)
  • 1 cup of creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup of powdered Splenda Monk Fruit
  • 1 tbsp of Cornstarch
  • 6 cups of rice Chex mix

Directions:

  1. To make powdered sugar, add 1 cup Splenda Monk Fruit and 1 tbsp cornstarch and blend together until it makes a fine dust.
  2. Divide the 6 cups of rice Chex into 2 gallon Ziploc bags. This will equal to 3 cups of rice Chex into each bag and set aside.
  3. Mix together peanut butter and chocolate either on the stove top or in the microwave in 20 second increments stirring in between.
  4. Once that comes to a smooth consistency, divide your chocolate and peanut butter mixture into your 2 gallon Ziploc bags.
  5. Now, shake!
  6. Let that cool for about 30 minutes.
  7. Lastly, divide your powdered Splenda Monk Fruit into each gallon bag.
