Today I'll be making my delicious and Creamy Green Bean Casserole. You can pair this with my other low calorie Thanksgiving dishes like my cauliflower mash or pumpkin pie.
Think of your favorite duos... What comes to mind? Chocolate and peanut butter? Grilled cheese and tomato soup? Milk and cereal? What about Thanksgiving turkey and green bean casserole? My mouth is watering just thinking about it! I look forward to this combination every year.
It’s time to start planning your Thanksgiving spread. While the turkey may be the star of the show, the side dishes are the supporting characters. And who doesn’t love a supportive sidekick?
Not to mention the fact that the side dishes are where all the flavor is. Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, gravy, candied yams, corn on the cob, cranberries, and my personal favorite, green bean casserole.
Although, I didn’t always love green bean casserole. When I was growing up, I wasn’t the biggest green bean fan. My parents would practically have to trick me into eating them. One of the only ways they could get me to eat it was in a green bean casserole. Thankfully, I grew out of it. Now, green beans are one of my favorite vegetables.
Since I come from a pretty decent sized family, we would all make a dish to share. This will be the fifth year in a row I am making the green bean casserole. My daughter loves it and even begs for it outside of the holiday season.
Sometimes, I even find myself craving it in the middle of the summer. It’s just too easy to not satisfy your craving. I can’t even tell her no. Because deep down, I know I’d want it too. Even on the busiest of days, I know I can find some time to throw together one of my daughter's favorite dishes.
Whether it’s enjoyed around a Thanksgiving table surrounded by friends and family, a work potluck, or a Friendsgiving, green bean casserole is the perfect Thanksgiving staple to bring to any event.
Enjoy!
You can either get it at your local Walmart, Target, or on Amazon.
No! You can substitute turkey bacon if you don’t eat pork or leave it out all together!
Generously top with crispy fried onions and add back to the oven for another 5 mins. Enjoy!
